Gemopai Astrid Lite Price & Motor

Gemopai electric, a joint venture between China’s Opai Electric and India’s Goreen E-mobility, is one of the latest electric vehicle manufacturers in India. Gemopai has two electric scooters in its product portfolio, and we recently had the opportunity to test one of them – the Gemopai Astrid Lite. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the Astrid Lite’s design and features, its performance, range, and top speed, its charging capabilities, and its riding dynamics.

Design and Looks

The Gemopai Astrid Lite is a sporty-looking electric scooter that is significantly smaller than a conventional IC engine scooter. The front end of the scooter features twin LED headlamps with a bumblebee-like shape, while the tail lamp is a sharper-looking unit that features a white DRL at the top. The all-digital instrument cluster displays the trip, odometer, speed, and remaining battery charge, but it lacks a percentage readout to show the exact level of the remaining charge. The scooter has two storage pockets upfront along with a USB charger, and the under-seat storage is generous and can accommodate a half-face helmet or even an additional battery.

Price

 Gemopai Astrid Lite

The Gemopai Astrid Lite is priced at Rs. 80,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), making it one of the most affordable electric scooters in India. The company claims that the cost of running the scooter is just 20 paise per km, which is significantly lower than the cost of running a conventional IC engine scooter.

Motor, Battery, Range & Top Speed

The Gemopai Astrid Lite is powered by a 1.7 kW lithium-ion battery mated to a 2,400W electric motor. The e-scooter comes with three riding modes – Eco, City, and Sport – that can be toggled with the help of a switch on the right. The company claims a top speed of 65 kmph, and during our test, the scooter achieved a speedo-indicated top speed of 70 kmph.

The scooter offers brisk acceleration, and speeds of up to 45 kmph are achieved quite easily. In Eco mode, the scooter managed to reach a top speed of 34 kmph, while in City, it did 45 kmph, and in Sport mode, it maxed out at 70 kmph. The scooter’s range is 87 km per single full charge while riding in Sport mode throughout, which is in sync with the company’s claimed figure of 75 to 90 km per single full charge.

Charging

 Gemopai Astrid Lite

The battery of the Gemopai Astrid Lite can be charged in two ways – either by directly connecting the charging cord to the scooter or by taking out the battery and charging it at your convenience. The company offers a standard AC charger with the scooter that takes close to 5 hours to charge the battery from 0 to 100 percent. However, taking the battery out to charge and fit it again in the scooter can be a task at times.
