MG Marvel R Price & More
MG has been making waves in the automotive world with its latest release, the Marvel R. This sleek electric SUV is part of the new genre of MG, owned by SAIC, and is fully electric, making it a standout choice for budget-conscious, first-time car buyers and young families. The Marvel R boasts a distinctive design and futuristic features that make it a car of the future.
Design and looks
The MG Marvel R is a compact SUV that features a sleek design and modern looks. Its exterior is characterized by sharp lines and edges, which give it a sporty and aerodynamic appearance. The front fascia of the car features a large hexagonal grille with the MG logo prominently displayed in the center. The grille is flanked by two slim LED headlights that give the car a futuristic look. The car’s rear features a high-mounted spoiler, sleek taillights, and a dual-tone bumper.
Inside, the MG Marvel R is just as futuristic as its exterior, with a large 19.4-inch portrait-style touchscreen that dominates the dashboard. The screen houses all the usual Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and is part of MG’s new iSmart connectivity system, which allows you to control various things remotely and enables a host of over-the-air updates. The car also features voice commands that let you operate other functions such as changing the air-conditioning temperature or opening the sunroof.
One of the most appealing things about the MG Marvel R is its price. The base model, the Comfort, starts at a very reasonable $36,000, making it an affordable option for those looking to go electric. The higher-spec Luxury model starts at $40,000, while the top-of-the-line Performance model, which boasts a third motor and all-wheel drive, starts at $45,000. The price of the Marvel R makes it a serious contender in the electric SUV market, especially when compared to other luxury electric cars like the Tesla Model Y.
Motor, Battery, Range & Top Speed
The MG Marvel R is powered by two electric motors, both at the rear. One motor is bigger than the other, and when driving at a constant speed, only the larger electric motor is enabled. However, when accelerating, the smaller one chips in to help as a booster. Both motors are powered by the same 70kWh battery, which gives the car a range of 402km. Performance is at the lower end of the EV scale, with 7.9 seconds to 100kph and a 200kph top speed, but like all EVs, there is zero delay in getting that power to the road, so it feels faster than the numbers suggest.
The Performance model adds a third motor located in the front axle, making it a permanent all-wheel drive. This delivers 284bhp and a meaty 665Nm of torque. The Performance Marvel R gets to 100kph in 4.9 seconds with the same top speed, but the trade-off is that range dips to 370km. The battery has an 11kW 3-phase charger for AC charging and is geared up for fast charging, which allegedly gets you from five to 80 per cent in 43 minutes.
The MG Marvel R is packed with features, many of which are designed to appeal to the tech-savvy younger demographic. The large 19.4-inch touchscreen dominates the dashboard and is reminiscent of Tesla’s Model S, with its portrait orientation. It’s easy to navigate, and the screen is bright and clear.
The MG Marvel R has a suite of driver aids, including lane departure warning, blind spot detection and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. Adaptive cruise control is standard, but you need to specify the Luxury or Performance models to get the advanced driver assistance system that offers level two autonomous driving.
The MG Marvel R’s interior is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of legroom and headroom. The seats are comfortable, and there’s a good view out of the large windows. There’s a reasonable amount of storage, although the boot is smaller than some competitors, with 357 litres of space. However, this expands to a more useful 1,396 litres with the seats down.
The Marvel R has a good range, with a claimed 402 km for the Comfort and Luxury models, and 370 km for the Performance model. Fast charging is available, and the battery can be charged from 5 to 80 per cent in just 43 minutes.
Overall, the MG Marvel R is an impressive electric vehicle that offers plenty of features for its price point. The interior is modern and stylish, and the large touchscreen and iSmart connectivity system are particularly noteworthy. The V2L system is a unique feature that sets the Marvel R apart from its competitors. While performance may not be as impressive as some other electric vehicles, the Marvel R offers good value for money and is an excellent choice for those looking for a stylish and practical electric vehicle.
